For the past 12 years, Change Happens! has designed and hosted this city-wide free event in an effort to provide families with information needed to live a healthy lifestyle, especially at the start of the school year. There were 80 vendors at the event to educate and provide assistance to families. There were free immunizations, Health Screenings, Live Entertainment, and Giveaways. The first event was at Greenspoint Mall, and the second event will be held at Almeda Mall Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Contact Jeness Sherrell at 713-374-1200 for additional information.

“Empowering Families To Help Themselves”

As the Summer season draws to a close, we ought to relish these last days before
the reality of end-of-summer is upon us. Summertime is a great time to relax, recharge and re-organize our resources and lives. Not just our outer lives, but our inner lives as well. Take stock in how things are going, what changes you’d like to make, and set the plan in motion for the Fall.  Resolve to stop worrying about things over which you have no control.  Decide what you need in your life to be happy and let go of the rest.  Don’t clutter your life and mind with unnecessary beliefs, habits, things or with negative thoughts or people. Learn how to manage your  time better so you’ll be able to attend your kids’ school events,meet friends for dinner, get to the gym or take up a hobby. Remember that change can be a good thing and when one door closes, another one opens – or maybe it’ll be a window.  Clear the clutter and make space for God’s blessings!! 

A future that includes college is a dream that Kids’ University attempts to instill in children who reside in homeless shelters and other high risk areas. This year, Change  

Happens! along with children ages 6-15 converged on the campus of The University of Houston for a five day event that gave participants a simulated college experience.  The week ended with a graduation ceremony for participants.  Special thanks to all of our sponsors! 

CenterPoint Energy Provides School Supplies to Change Happens! Youth

For kids, part of the back-to-school excitement comes with getting new crayons, folders, backpacks and other school supplies. However, many kids will show up on the first day of school lacking the necessary tools to succeed; pencil and paper. Special thanks to CenterPoint Energy for teaming up again with Change Happens! in providing school supplies to the underprivileged children in our community. Thank you CenterPoint for truly making a difference in the lives of our children! 

Children should become familiar with different careers to help them discover their passions. It is important to encourage children to stay ambitious with their dreams by helping them explore career options.
One of the most  difficult parts of
growing up is determining what you
want to be. You can help your children
ease into adulthood by demonstrating
the advantages and drawbacks of various careers, The youth in the Change Happens! summer program spent the afternoon at Satterfield & Pontikes learning about the Construction Industry.  The youth learned that the construction industry is a career for both men and women.  One of the youth stated she thought she wanted to be a nurse, but she now wants to attend college and learn how to design buildings in  her neighborhood.
