This is Change Happens! 10th Annual Children’s Health Day. The primary purpose of the event is to inform and educate families about the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CHIP offers health care for children, from birth to age 18, whose families earn too much to get Medicaid and can’t afford private health insurance. Children’s Health Day has grown to over 80 vendors participating at two local malls.

In 2010, Change Happens! is working with Community Partners to salute Houston-area
community and business leaders for their outstanding parenting skills as a father at the
annual Fathers of the Year luncheon. The event, an 18-year Houston tradition attended
by 500 to 700 people, is a celebration of fathers for their unconditional love and guidance
to their children throughout life.
For fathers who receive the Fathers of the Year award, as one honoree said, “the experience
is filled with both pride and overwhelming emotion.” It is not often that men are
recognized for their role as a father in the way that Change Happens! honors Fathers of
the Year recipients. The luncheon includes a video tribute to each honoree, and the
children have an opportunity to speak about their fathers, both in the video and at the
luncheon, before the presentation of the awards.
While the luncheon is a major Change Happens! fund-raising event, it is also a rare opportunity
to see Houston’s leading community and business leaders in their most important
role… as a father.
