Everything we do, we believe in inspiring young people to empower themselves.  We believe young people will be the Change Makers of tomorrow.  The way we challenge young people to be their best – to dream and create their own magnificent future, is by providing pathways that open great opportunities to learn, to grow, to do more, to become more, to courageously challenge the status quo, and ultimately to change a community and change a world.  We help inspire Change Makers.  You can join us by making a small investment in the Change Makers of tomorrow.

Change Happens is raising funds to send ten young people to Washington, DC June 23-25, 2019.  The Close Up Foundation, a national non-profit educational organization, sponsors the Close Up Washington Program. The trip is not simply to sightsee.  The trip is aligned with state educational standards for social studies, history, and civics.  The outstanding faculty of the Close Up Program conduct fascinating workshops and discussion between students and their peers.  Our youth will join other youth participants from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Puerto Rico and numerous countries around the world; and come face-to-face with the people and places that have shaped our nation.

Since 1971, over 750,000 students and teachers have participated in this one-of-a-kind program.  During the trip, our Change Makers will: see DC’s famous monuments and memorials close up; discuss current issues facing their community and country; visit the world-renowned Smithsonian Museums; make new friends from around the nation; meet with their Congressional delegation; debate hot topics during a dynamic mock congress; experience Embassy Row; walk the hallowed ground of Arlington National Cemetery; talk with members of Congress and journalists; enjoy a theatre performance; discover DC’s vibrant neighborhood; and so much more!

Close Up has provided an $8,000 match to help fund this trip.  We are seeking $10,000 to fund the remaining total cost of the trip.  The cost of this week long trip per participant includes:

  • Air Fare;

  • Three meals per day;

  • Coach bus transportation around the city;

  • Hotel accommodations;

  • Educational materials;

  • Trained instructors/educators

  • Entrance fees and gratuities; and

  • 24-hour supervision.

Please invest in helping our Change Makers experience this unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will help develop the skills they need to begin a lifetime of active citizenship.  Just think, if 100 people gave $150, or 200 people gave $75, or 300 people gave $50 – we will meet our goal.  Please give today!  We need your donation by May 6, 2019.  See information below on how you can give.  To meet our Change Makers read more about them below.  To learn more about Close Up, visit www.closeup.org.
