JACK YATES HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC RENOVATION
The George Perry Floyd Jr Athletic Community Field at Jack Yates high school is working to raise funds to install the new synthetic turf at Yates high school. The project received funding from the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, which is a partnership of the National Football League Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and the Houston Texans. Moreover, Commissioner Rodney Ellis was instrumental in the designation of Yates High School as the recipient of the artificial turf donated by the Houston Texans, Hellas Construction, Inc. and the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation-NRG Park.
The renovation of the field has many characteristics of a Comprehensive Community Initiative which organizes people and institutions dedicated to improving the well-being of individuals and families in distressed neighborhoods. Athletic fields serve as valuable community assets and offer opportunities for recreation, education, relaxation, as well as a place for student-athletes and coaches to train and enhance athletic skills and abilities.
