2021 Royal Wallace Scholarship Award

Royal Wallace was a beloved member of the Change Happens family. During his tenure at Change Happens, he worked in multiple capacities including HIV Prevention and Marketing & Development. Royal was instrumental in helping Change Happens secure the Obama Foundation Grant, from which the Each One of Us My Brother’s Keeper Mentoring program was born.  To honor Royal and acknowledge what his dedication and great work meant to  Change Happens, The Royal Wallace Scholarship Award will be presented to a deserving, college bound Each One of Us My Brother’s Keeper program participant.  The award presentation will occur on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Change Happens Empower Your Voice 2021 Virtual Teen Summit.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

The scholarship application must be submitted on-line by May 30th, 2021 at 3:00 pm.  Complete the application below. All attachments should be hand  delivered to an MBK Staff  member by May 30th, 2021 at 3:00 pm. MBK Staff member will collect documents on Yates High School Campus.

Information needed to complete the on line application include:

  • Full Name, address (include zip code), email and telephone number.

  • Official high school transcript (MUST have either an official seal or enclosed in a sealed envelope with a signature of school official across the seal) including grade point average with scale.

  • Rank in high school class

  • ACT/SAT/PSAT scores  if  taken (Either through Official transcript or from the Testing Entity)

  • Two letters of recommendation one from a teacher and one from any other individual that is not a relative or friend. Letter must NOT be from a Change Happens employee. Letters must include:  a paragraph or sentence explaining how the individuals knows the person they are writing about, the nature of the relationship with them, an honest evaluation of the person's characteristics, skills, capabilities, ethics, or accomplishments, preferably with specific examples, and a statement or summary that explains why they would recommend the person they are writing about.

  • One-page essay on “What  have you learned from the MBK Mentoring program and how do you plan to use what you learned as you start college?"

  • List of extracurricular activities, including community service, awards and accomplishments, and employment/work experience.

Note: The application must be fully completed and all listed attachments (including essay)are required for the application to be considered complete.
