SELF-SUFFICIENCY
PROGRAM
The Self-Sufficiency Fund Program, through the Texas Workforce Commission, will provide low-income adults with job and occupational skills training in Welding, Construction, and Warehouse with Houston Community College. Upon completion, each trainee with be placed in high-demand, high-skills industries, by working with the Change Happens! Workforce developer and other community partners.
The program seeks to:

Provide training for targeted employment opportunities to allow adult Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and individuals at risk of becoming dependent on public assistance to achieve self-sufficiency;

Develop projects that will create jobs in the workforce areas through collaboration

Develop projects that at the completion of training will result in the attainment of an industry recognized certificate or credential for the participants in the training project.
Eligibility criteria include:

Must live in Harris county at the time of enrollment

Must be at risk of becoming dependent on public assistance
-
Earn less than $37,000 a year
-
Has a desire to better their situation
-
Willing to meet the program requirements and attend all required trainings and appointments.
